As we wrap up an exciting high school winter sports season, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible achievements of our SPHS teams and athletes. With many games rescheduled due to the impact of the fires there was a lot of movement in the schedules, but the teams showed great resilience through it all with all five winter SPHS sports teams qualifying into the CIF playoffs.
Girls’ Water Polo
This season, the girls’ water polo team, consisting of many young athletes, finished in 3rd place in the highly competitive Rio Hondo League. They qualified for CIF playoffs and played a thrilling first-round match against Schurr High School. After a hard-fought defensive battle, the game went into overtime with a 6-6 tie but ultimately ended in an 8-6 loss. Despite the setback, it was an impressive performance for a young team, and we look forward to building on their talent and chemistry for a strong off-season and deep CIF run next year.
Soccer
The girls’ soccer team also had a strong season, securing a 3rd place finish in a strong Rio Hondo league with a 7-3-0 record. Their efforts earned them a spot in the CIF playoffs. Meanwhile, the JV girls team claimed 1st place in the league with a 6-0-2 record. Under new head coach Justin Wright, the boys’ soccer team had an outstanding season, finishing as Rio Hondo League champions with a perfect 8-0-2 league record and an overall record of 15-2-3. The JV boys’ team also went undefeated in league (8-0-2) and finished with an incredible overall record of 18-0-2, setting a program record of 33-2-5 between both levels. The boys’ soccer team will host a CIF playoff game this Thursday at 5:00 p.m. against La Puente High School.

Basketball
Both our boys’ and girls’ basketball teams had stellar seasons. The girls’ basketball team shared the Rio Hondo League championship with a 9-1 league record, giving them their 5th consecutive league title. They finished the regular season 18-7. They will be hosting Moorpark in the CIF playoffs this Thursday. The boys’ basketball team also claimed the Rio Hondo League title with a 9-1 league record, marking back-to-back league championships for the first time in more than four decades for the boys’ basketball team to stay at top spot in the league (2024 & 2025). Their overall record of 19-9 earned them a spot in CIF Division 2AA, where they will be on the road for a first-round matchup at Newport Harbor.
